Day 1 - Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree)
The journey kicks off with a drive to the Londorossi Gate, the starting point for the Lemosho Route. Pass through verdant rainforests, catching glimpses of wildlife amidst the lush vegetation. The day culminates at Mti Mkubwa, a campsite surrounded by towering trees. Geographical Description: The forested trail at this stage is characterized by a temperate climate, with temperatures ranging between 10 to 25°C. The height meter ranges from approximately 2,100 meters at the gate to around 2,800 meters at Mti Mkubwa. The distance covered is roughly 7-8 km. The area boasts a rich diversity of flora including ferns, mosses, and ancient trees.

Day 2 - Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Ascend further, transitioning from the rainforest to the heath zone. The trail leads to Shira 1 Camp, offering breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau and its expansive landscapes. Geographical Description: The terrain becomes more rugged as you ascend to approximately 3,500 meters. Temperatures drop slightly, averaging around 5 to 15°C. Covering about 5-6 km, the vegetation shifts to moorland characterized by unique plant species adapted to the harsher climate.

Day 3 - Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut

Geographical Description: As altitude increases to about 4,200 meters, temperatures become cooler, ranging from 0 to 10°C. The distance covered is around 10-12 km. The landscape here features sparse vegetation and rocky terrain, creating a surreal atmosphere.

Day 4 - Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Embark on a challenging yet rewarding journey to Lava Tower, a striking rock formation. Descend to Barranco Camp through the stunning Barranco Valley, known for its impressive Senecio Kilimanjari trees. Geographical Description: Altitude reaches around 4,600 meters at Lava Tower before descending to approximately 3,900 meters at Barranco Camp. Temperatures vary between -5 to 5°C. This stage covers about 9-10 km, showcasing unique high-altitude flora like the iconic Kilimanjaro Senecios.

Day 5 - Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Embark on the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that rewards with panoramic vistas. Traverse through the Karanga Valley, leading to the Karanga Camp nestled in a sheltered valley beneath the glaciers. Geographical Description: Altitude climbs gradually to around 4,000 meters. Temperatures remain similar to the previous day, averaging between -5 to 5°C. The distance covered is approximately 5 km. The landscape transitions to a mix of rocky terrain and sparse vegetation, offering glimpses of the glaciers above.

Day 6 - Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base for the final ascent. As you reach higher altitudes, the air becomes thinner, and the landscape transforms into an otherworldly lunar-like terrain. Geographical Description: Altitude increases significantly to around 4,600 meters at Barafu Camp. Temperatures hover between -5 to 5°C. Covering about 4-5 km, the landscape is characterized by rocky slopes and scree, with limited vegetation and stunning views of the glaciers above.

Day 7 - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak Back to Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp
The ultimate day dawns as you embark on the exhilarating trek towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate the victorious moment before descending to Barafu Camp and further down to Mweka Camp. Geographical Description: Reach the summit at approximately 5,895 meters, experiencing temperatures ranging from -10 to -5°C. Descending back to Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters and then to Mweka Camp at around 3,100 meters, the trail spans about 15-16 km. The landscape shifts from barren, snow-capped peaks to the lower heath and moorland.

Day 8 - Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
Descend through the lush rainforest, marking the end of an incredible journey. Reach Mweka Gate, where a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction fills the air. Geographical Description: The descent from approximately 3,100 meters to the Mweka Gate at 1,650 meters covers around 10 km. Temperatures rise gradually as you descend, averaging between 10 to 25°C.
